Periodontal Laser Treatment
There are 2 Laser procedures we use in our office to treat gingivitis and periodontal disease. LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is for treating moderate to advanced periodontal disease (usually with pockets that are 5-6mm or greater.
LBR (Laser Bacterial Reduction) is typically recommended for gingivitis and early stages of periodontal disease.
The reasons we use LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) are to:
Dr. Picchetti has been saving teeth for over 10 years by treating gum disease with LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure). As an alternative to gum surgery, this less traumatic treatment for periodontal disease utilizes safe and proven laser technology to gently remove harmful bacteria and diseased tissue from the gums. There is less pain, less bleeding, less tissue removed, and shorter recovery time than with conventional periodontal surgery.
Controlling periodontal disease makes it possible to save and restore to health teeth that may otherwise have to be extracted. Most importantly, LANAP restores your whole mouth to health, reducing your body’s susceptibility to the serious health problems associated with gum disease.
LANAP is FDA approved and is the only laser periodontitis treatment scientifically proven to regenerate both soft tissue and bone using an Nd:YAG free running pulsed laser. Dr. Picchetti is certified and has extensive training in the use of this laser for LANAP and many other procedures.
LBR (Laser Bacterial Reduction) is used for:
The procedure is typically performed by one of our laser certified dental hygienists. A laser light from a Diode Laser is moved around the tooth and directed under the gums with a very fine filament. The power of its focused light destroys otherwise inaccessible bacterial colonies while simultaneously creating an ideal environment for healing. This is a quick, painless inexpensive procedure that is typically incorporated in the periodontal scaling procedures and can also be used during a regular cleaning appointment if gingivitis (bleeding and inflammation) is present. It only takes about 5-10 minutes to treat the entire mouth and is completely painless so anesthetic is not needed.
Bacteria can also make their way into our bloodstream, plaguing other areas of our bodies with oral pathogens. Latest research shows that these oral pathogens have now been linked to a number of other diseases such as cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, low weight babies, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and others conditions. Anything we can do to reduce or eliminate this bacteremia is a positive treatment for our patients. Laser Bacterial Reduction is one of the best ways to protect against infection and sickness caused by the spread of bacteria.
By incorporating the use of our lasers to help eliminate bacterial pathogens in the mouth, we have seen tremendous improvement in the oral health of our patients over the past few years.CALL US: 630.627.7651
